CONSIDERATION OF PETITION FROM RESIDENTS ALONG THE SOUTHERN
PORTION OF LONG LAKE ROAD FROM 13TH STREET N.W. TO PIKE LAKE
CIRCLE REGARDING THE UPGRADING AND WIDENING OF THE LONG LAKE
ROAD AND SETTING DATE FOR IMPROVEMENT HEARING.

8. CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR COM-
MUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (GROWING YOUNGER).

---,."

5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

Public Hearing

Mattila reviewed staff report and diagram regarding a petition to
vacate a portion of Old Highway 8 so that Robinson Coach can ap-
proximately 16,000 square feet to its site to accommodate a pro-
posed bus garage.

Brandt believes there may be a solution that would give Robinson a
30-foot setback and give the city a large portion to the north
with which to work. If the proposal doesn't provide any movement
over the rest of the right-of-way, Brandt asked if it would be an
option for the city to provide an easement into the right-of-way.
Mattila stated a 40-foot setback is needed for the garage and,
with the proposed 30-foot right-of-way, the applicant would need a
ten-foot setback variance.

Robinson stated that, since his original discussion with the
neighbors, he has changed some things (would locate the garage in
the southeast corner and would install trees and bushes in the
front to hide the building); would give the city its full setback
requirement and felt trees would prevent the drivers from driving
over the grass. Robinson indicated the neighbors believe the new
proposal would also work.

Benke asked if the new proposal would need a front yard setback
variance; Mattila indicated no parking is allowed in the front of
an industrial building; and that nothing further has been reviewed
because at this time the only consideration is the vacation of the
right-of-way.

Williams asked if the revised plan would have to go back to the
Planning Commission.

Benke stated the quandary is that the city's plan for a gateway to
New Brighton in that same area has not yet been finalized and,
therefore, doesnlt believe a decision can be made.

Williams stated a vacation may not be necessary, depending on the
site plan.

Page 2

MPCA Contract
Report 87-214

Petition: Long
Lake Road and
Improv.
