ROBERT BEUTEL
ATTORNEY AT LAW ~ `~A ~ ~~~~
RICE CREEK CENTER "'~- 6++~
2124 SILVER LAKE ROAD
NEW BRIGHTON, MINNESOTA 551 12
(6 t 2) 633-5685
August 30, 1978
..New Brighton City Council
'.New Brighton City Hall
New Brighton, MN..5.5112 .
re: Application of ReC<E. Corporation for Variance
Ladies and.Gentlemens
I am writing to support the request of R.C.E. Corporation for a
variance from the requirement-for a.eurb along the south line of
the Rice:Creek Center parking lot. Speaking as.a tenant in Rice
Creek Center, I have no .desire for such a curb now. As you know,
the property to the south is unimproved; a curb will add nothing to.
the aesthetics, and there exists no function for a curb there now;
no traffic or water to channel one way or the other.
Speaking as a watcher of the economy, I.thnk it is very harmful
to require-the installation of an improvement for which there.is
no current use and which will be torn up when the area to .the south
is-developed. That's what inflation is all about: paying more
money to get less value. We all know.it will be the patrons of
Rice.Creek Center who ultimately pay .the-bill for the installation
and .demolition of that curb.
Please: understand that I have.no.quarrel-with .the general require-
ment for curbs. It just seems to:be.a common .sense place.to exercise
..sound discretion to postpone .the requirement for a curb .here until
the area to the south is.develoged and the final configuration for
all parking is known:
Since ,
Robert.Beutel
Attorney at Law
RB:jb .
