<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />February 24, 1987 <br /> <br />Locke stated on February 11, 1987, New Brighton was designated as <br />the 50th Star City in the State of Minnesota, noting the presen- <br />tation was made by David Speers of Minnesota's Department of <br />Energy and Economic Development. <br /> <br />Locke explained the designation of a Star City represents the <br />culmination of over two years of work by the Economic Develop- <br />ment Commission, the city council, city staff, and other members <br />of the community in organizing the community for effective <br />economic development promotion and is the beginning of the <br />city's efforts to market the community, attract industry, and <br />maintain and encourage the growth of the business we have today <br />and build a community of which we can be proud. <br /> <br />Locke then delivered the plaque to Mayor Benke; Benke thanked <br />and congratulated Locke and his staff for a job well done and <br />noted this is just the beginning of a lot of things that will be <br />happening in New Brighton in the years to come. <br /> <br />Because Benke and Schmidt will be out of town Thursday, Benke <br />took tonight's opportunity to proclaim Thursday, February 26, <br />1987, as Pike Lake School Day in New Brighton in recognition of <br />their receipt of the National School of Excellence. <br /> <br />Pike Lake Elementary School students, school staff, and parents <br />that were present introduced themselves and received congratula- <br />tions from Mayor Benke. Staff thanked the Mayor and Councilmem- <br />bers for the proclamation and recognition and invited all to <br />attend the celebration on Thursday afternoon and/or evening. <br /> <br />Gunderman stated he, too, was very proud of the students and <br />staff of Pike Lake Elementary School. <br /> <br />Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Benke asked that Item VI-4 (Consideration of Weed Ordinance) be <br />removed from the Consent Agenda and be placed as the last order <br />of Council Business. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Williams, to APPROVE THE <br />CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1. CONSOLIDATED VOUCHERS: 74845-74850 AND 82311-82633 <br /> <br />2. CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION CONCERNING VACATION OF OLD EASE- <br />MENTS ON THE SEMINARY ESTATES PROPERTY. <br /> <br />3.
