September 2, 1981 Park Board Minutes <br />Page 4 <br />Schmitz said there is enough buffer and it is far. enough from the <br />homes that it shouldn't create a problem. Also she wanted that <br />area to get used.. <br />Dahl asked how .far. the fence was from the structure. <br />Schmitz said about 15 feet. <br />Carlson suggested switching the swings with the play structure. <br />Schmitz said that could be done. <br />Van Hatten said they don''t need to be switched. Swings. make alot <br />of noise and the kids are noisey. <br />Grimshaw asked how. the sun shelter was selected <br />Schmitz said there isn't much to choose from.. The shelter chosen <br />will have a deck under it. <br />Schmidt asked if there would be a problem with the location of the <br />swings if the .kids jump off. <br />Schmitz said-any playground equipment has some risk, The structure <br />has enough opportunities that the kids won't look for other things. <br />Van Hatten asked if a recommendation was needed. <br />Anderson said not necessary but you can if you'd like. <br />Motion by Van. Hatten, seconded by Hogan, to approve the budget and <br />tentative layout for the playground at Sunny Square, Motion passed. <br />Johnson asked how many acres Sunny Square is. <br />Anderson said just over 6 ar~res. Looking at about 12 acres in the <br />play area. <br />Pat Cobb, resident, asked what .the budget was for the play equipment. <br />Anderson said $25,000. _ ___ <br />C. Long Lake Article for Newsletter <br />Anderson said the Assistant City. Manager has asked each Department <br />Head to submit a major article for the City Hail Newsletter. Would <br />like comments to the one written. The.Newsletter goes out to all. New <br />Brighton residents. .Tried to be as objective as possible. <br />Chairperson Dahl asked the Park Board for comments on the article. <br />Grimshaw stated that the fixst paragraph mentioning the marina should <br />be clarified that the marina was deleted from the current plan. <br />Dahl felt there should be clarification between the plans being <br />discussed; the original plan and the current plan. <br />
