August 13, 1981. Park Board Minutes
V. New Business
Page 2
A. Long Lake Park Master Planning Process Recommendation
Anderson said the next step is to generate discussion,:set up
atime schedule, recruitfor:committee, determine what role
the committee will take. Ken Simons and Bernard Edmonds have dual
roles; one as consultants and as planners. They wi l take input from
City staff and the committee. The County could, if it chose to,
write a Master.-Plan and say this is it. That is not their intention
but Ken Simons is the planner -and probably started today with the
boiler plate - the standard verbage. He will be identifying con-
cerns the City will want input on. Even though he is working on
it, we will not have input until this first step is completed.
The Park Board received a draft of the announcement to be put in
the New Brighton Bulletin regarding applicants for the committee.
Solberg asked if there will be a cross section of New Brighton
residents.
Anderson said there will be three .Park Board members, three Long
Lake residents, and three non-Long Lake residents. All six people
will: submit an application on the standard commission application
form. The Park Board will pick from the applicants..
Solberg stated she would like to .see the park facilities for the
handicapped.
Johnson said there has been money donated from the Lions Club for
a blind trail.
Solberg said there was only one park in the. metro area that is
equipped for-the handicapped.
Anderson said he was aware of at least one other.
Dahl asked if it had been decided whether the community organizations
would receive a letter in regard to the committee.
Anderson said it was his understanding the decision was no. The
committee members might expect to serve. If it is put in the
Bulletin everyone gets a fair chance and it keeps the expectations
down.
Carlson asked what would happen if we couldn't get-three people
from the community.
Anderson said he doesn't think it will happen.
Carlson said the committee will have to put in alot of time.
Anderson said he anticipates. only about 5 or 6 meetings.
Dahl asked if a special meeting would be necessary to identify
those applicants chosen
