August 13, 19.81 Park Board Minutes
.Page 4
Community Facilities - broke out some work for his
year and moved to 1983. Hate to put parking lot
above others but they are really a thorn. Lf there
are problems with anything it can possibly be changed.
If Anderson agrees with the change,. he will give his.
recommendation o the Manager.. If Anderson doesn`t
approve, it will go to the Manager as a separate recommen-
dation.
Johnson. said he would have liked to see the original that the
Park Board put. together before it was put in final form.
Solberg asked if sun shelters will be at all the parks.
Anderson said that is intended.
Anderson said he would-like a motion if the Park Board is com-
fortable making the decision at this time. Itcould wait until
September but prefers a motion now.
Motion by Johnson, seconded by Solberg, to adopt the CIP Plan
as written. Motion passed.-
C. Notice of Youth Athletic Consortium
Anderson stated the Department has been trying to get, the athletic
associations to communicate on a regular basis to advise on
coaching clinics. Hope to get some similarity as to the. playing
time, i.e. all participants play a certain amount of ,time, ulti-
mately to serve as a lobby group. The need of the departments is
to have some kind of training for volunteer coaches. Anderson
stated if we grant someone- a field., we are really approving
their activities. Would like to have a mandatory coaches clinic,
though it may not be practical. In Edina if you want to coach,
you can only coach one year because they have so many people that
want to coach. In New .Brighton we beg for coaches. Edina is
well organized and has community pride. Anderson told the Park
Board that if they think something like this has merit and. would
like to have an official .representative from the Park Board, he
encourages-the Park Board. to do so. All Park and Recreation
departments will be represented.
Carlson. said he is not .available for the meeting but is interested
in being a liason in the future. Was involved with another group
in deciding who will be able to have use of school facilities.
Anderson said the committee will probably meet quarterly.
Anderson commented that the department has some interesting
numbers in participation in our programs. Almost every instance
shows our numbers climbing.
Johnson asked if there were numbers on boys and girls.
Anderson said no.
