July 1, 1981 Park Board Minutes
Carlson said the more
to a designated body.
cases, as in the Park
the City. Appreciate
the rest of the Park
in the Council.
Page 7
input from the residents.,. the more impact
It makes our program better. In most
.Board's, members are spread out throughout
input from residents and it is shared with
Board members. He stated he does have faith
Schmidt commented .that he has been on .the Council for 12 years and
the Council has worked closely with the Park Board. He can't recall
where the Council has not taken. input from citizens. At a recent
meeting everyone felt they had been heard. We .listen to residents.
We have very .competent people on the Boards and Commissions.
Arnold Mosko, 1433 Mississippi, agreed with what was said. .Control
is good. Buy-back is good but aren't we selling out at a very low
price? That piece of property could be sold for 10 times that price.
Gunderman agreed that it is worth much more than we paid but we
want it as a-park.
Mary Polzak, 1693 14th Ave. NW, asked if the park was bought with
bond money, shouldn't there be a referendum.
Anderson said the City Attorney is reviewing the language. We
believe we have the option to sell the land.
Commers said something should. be set up on how to represent us.
Gunderman asked if all Long Lake residents are involved.
Commers said the majority.
Margo Seaman, 1688 14th Ave. N.W., said as parent and educator she
is concerned with the boat launch. Who said it is big enough. How
much black top? Concerned with nature. Is there a possibility
the nature center will go? Unhappy with .not being informed.. What
do people qualified say?
Gunderman said the Long Lake site is sensitive. It encompasses all
kinds of groups outside New Brighton. It is not going to be the
same as it was 10 years ago. It will be a facility for Ramsey County
and not just New Brighton, If we get input from everyone concerned,
this makes him confident because it's been a long way in the planning.
We will end up with something usable and that we can be proud of.
One resident stated that we all know there will be a park there.
If it were kept as a nature center it would be something unique.
Who designed it?
Gunderman explained that the people involved were residents, Board
members, Council and anyone who wanted to give input. The more
people to add input the better.
