Not 1000 of course.- Sodahl, 17A St., asked if it has been determined that New Brighton residents do not want to put any more money into this park. Schmidt stated the City is in a difficult position in evaluating how to spend money. Went through bonding referendum with the School District, cut-back. in State aid. What do we do if the County doesn't do anything. City wanted to be implementing agency. It :probably wouldn't look as good if the City did. it on its own. The resident commented that it would be less expensive if it was just New Brighton and we cut down, on the size.. Johnson stated that the main .expense to the park is the road.. Schmidt said we have to go to a Regional park because we can't expect the residents to pick that up in taxes ($120,00) which includes everything except nature center, Deborah Meyers, 1681 14th Ave, NW, asked how the concept plan evolved. Gunderman said it comes from the Director and input from all re- source people. Anderson said in September of 1977 a concept. plan was prepared. Ken Simons, Landscape Architect for Ramsey County plus_ a County Naturalist. worked on the plan and Anderson worked closely with him. There was a series of meetings and residents were asked to participate. Questionnaires were sent out. Meetings were held to talk about the park. There was a meeting. with: Ramsey County and the plan was discussed with Ramsey County staff and residents. The Park Board finally:had a plan they were comfortable with and went to the Council. The Council was not satisfied. It was sent back to. the Park Board. It went back to the Council and was approved in 1978. Somethings have changed and the concept plan may have to be changed. We never had consensus of all the residents. Meyers commented that the beach is not being used. Don't know the reason. Dahl thought: it might be helpful to spend time on the master plan process for getting input. Perhaps there could be serval groups organized to work on agreement for input to the plan. Gunderman suggested having a session to look over the current concept plan.
