June 3, 1981 Park Board Minutes Page 3
Carlson suggested having a hay ride back there.
Schmidt said there will be concessions. Nothing else will be
planned for the 4th.
Anderson said Bruce Marx of the Jaycees is trying to put to-
gether a dignitaries ride of Ramsey. County officials and legis-
lative people. Anderson said we should have someone there to
inform people of what is happening.
Gunderman asked each member to give their comments regarding
~aublicity of Long Lake site on the 4th and 5th.
Solberg liked the idea. Didn't want to conflict with other
activities. Maybe have a booth where people could get questions
answered.
Dahl said it was a good idea to get people in the site and a
feel for what the area is like.
Olson likes the idea of getting people back there.. Have people
posted at different areas to answer questions..
Anderson thought perhaps both self-guided tours and guided tours
could be offered.
Carlson said he agreed with the walking tour because people could
get a better feel of the park. Prefers the. tour be guided so
rumors don't start as to what will be done with the park. Maybe
an informational flyer could be put together with a map. Some
transportation tour should be available for the handicapped. The
handicapped should know in advance that there will be facilities
available to them.
Van Hatters said he objects to motorized vehicles. He likes the
hay ride idea.
Gunderman. asked if .people will be dressed for these activities.
Most everyone agreed ,that people would dress casually.
Schmidt said there will be a plush car that will transport
dignitaries. Champagne and hors d' oeuvres will. be served:
in the car.
Van Hatters likes the idea of getting use out of the park .and
feels appreciation should be given to Bury for use of his property.
There is grand opportunity-for publicity. Should have a map if
nothing-else. Feels there should be a historical-map as well
describing where the Hipp's houlse was and Indidan artifacts. He.
is willing to contact someone in the non-motorized field to set
up rides.
Schmidt said the League of Women Voters has a slide presentation
of the history of New Brighton.. Someone may want. to set up a
booth to show slides.
