June 3, 1981 Park Board Minutes
Page 2
Gunderman said he saw Hal Norberg and he's in favor of Ramsey
County being implementing agency and carrying all the weight..
Solberg said Perovich cvas impressed with Gunderman and Johnson's
discussion.
Anderson. said. the support with ;the Ramsey County Public Works
Committee was a good base for Perovich to work from.. Anderson
said the Public Works decision bothered him. It was as if they
totally forgot what the County Board had decided previously. The
County Board and the Public Works Committee are split. One in
favor; one aginst.
Gunderman said he would like to keep Perovich informed so we don't
spend 6 months going in :a circle.
Anderson said he will be gone on vacation so he-will. not be able
to attend the meeting on th 15th. Solberg said she will attend
and Dahl said she will-.try to make it. Anderson said the only
information we need to give the Ramsey County Board is that we
request immediate action.
Anderson said there is more interest in Long Lake Park from resi-
dents than there has been in the past three years. They are
asking questions about everything. They ask for maps, the. history
of New Brighton-and aspects related to the park.:. He has invited
each one he has talked to to attend-the Park Board meetings.
One of the residents wants a committee set up to tell Anderson
what to do with the park. Anderson said there needs to be a
master plan so residents can be involved in that process. She
should make a request to the Park Board to start an Ad-Hoc
Committee, if the Park Board is willing to act in that role.
It might be good. Most of the questions are coming from the
north end of the lake. They keep saying the park: was to be a
preserve. .Anderson said the-next move is up to them.
Van Hatten asked if they were an organized group or individuals.
Anderson said apparently a loosely organized group.
Carlsonasked when the marker buoys are going out.
Anderson said he's waiting for the signs.
B. Steam Locomotive
Schmidt attended a meeting Monday night with representatives
from the Jaycees, Historical Society, and other civic repre-
sentatives. There are plans for the 4th and 5th of July to
have a steam locomotive run in New Brighton. They are expecting
4,000-5,000 people. Schmidt said he met with Dick Bury to dis-
cuss where the hundreds of ears will be parked. Bury said he
would allow the cars to use his land. There will also be a museum
car on display. Tickets will be sold from 9:00-7':.30 each day.
The train will run from the park to the pole yards. The Park
Board could put up signs to promote the park. Possibly set up
tours.
