Anderson said one problem we have is that you really cannot see the debris until the snow melts. This year the snow went on a Friday and by the weekend we couldn't get a vehicle out there. Carlson said even with the clean up there is still alot that goes into the lake. Anderson said he can't see that anything can be done except en- courage scouts,. etc. to help. Olson said perhaps just making people aware of what they are doing and asking for cooperation would help. Anderson said half of the problem comes from people that don`t have an ice house and are just there to party. Van Hatten suggested planning a clean up day and have everyone come out for clean up. Grimshaw asked if there are trash barrels. • Carlson said there are on the beach but people will not bring the trash to the end of the lake. Do not want barrels on the lake. Gunderman asked if it could be policed by the Scouts. Olson said the troups are always looking for. ways to finance their activities. Hogan asked if there was a law that said the beach had to be opened. Anderson said no but then you are penalizing those that do obey the law. Motion by Johnson, seconded by Hogan, that the City pay the $70 if the DNR does not. Motion passed. Van Hatten expressed concern that we may be setting a precedent. Johnson said every motion is unique and he doesn't feel $70 is slot of money. Van Hatten said the Scouts should be contacted. Olson guessed there are about 20 troups in New Brighton. . Van Hatten said he feels it's a good idea to schedule troups once a weekend. Olson said the service officer should be contacted. She also suggestec that the 4-H groups be contacted.
