January 7, 1981 Park Board Minutes Page.3
Gunderman commented on the Police section that the Park Board
should have involvement and be part of the discussion to cover
the Park Board views, especially relating to Long Lake.
Gunderman asked if new vehicles were being considered for the
Police;. maybe changing to .station wagons to incorporate two
uses..
Benke stated that new vehicles have not been a major discussion.
He feels the Police would like large cars while the Council is
concerned with mileage,-etc.. One area being looked at is space
for paramedics.
Dahl asked when the City Manager was leaving.
Benke said the end of January or 1st of February. Staff and
Council have been asked for recommendations for a new City
Manager.
Gunderman asked if the Park; Board could be part of the interview
process. Gunderman-said. he would like to provide prospective
and add input to what he Park Board. feels is important.
Benke commented that there may be an open session for this.
Van Hatten brought up his concern of Veterans Park. He feels
it is a good idea to put Veterans Park on the agenda monthly
for. update and review. The new downtown development sub-
stantially affects Veterans Park. It seems. that the developers
intend to make many.. changes to .the. park. He feels-the Council
or Park Board should state, on record, where it stands on this
issue so that the developers Yiav an idea of the City's viewpoint.
Anderson responded that there are two majorplans being can-
sidered. The Council will choose between these at the next
meeting. Once staff has developed a plan, it will go to_the
boards for recomm~,ndation and approval. The Park Board will
have as much. say as they:want in the. planning and can stay in~
volved to be sure concerns afe met a
.Benke commented that the Downtown `Development Committee-has con-
(erred with residents and.they don't want to change the location
of the park. They don"t want to see-it across 10th: Street.
Both plans submitted show the park this way. The Council has tried
to keep the Park Board informed and.-urges that a representative
attend each of the Downtown Development meetings.
Benke stated there are definite concerns relating to parks. and
the Park Board should certainly stay close to what is happening
and be informed.
Van Hatten agreed to be a representative for the Park Board re-
garding Veterans Park and the Downtown Development, The Do'wn-
town Development will be put on the Park Board agenda each month.
