The New Brighton Area Historical Society's Articles of Incorporation state
that the general purpose of thiscorporation shall be the discovery, pre-
servation, and. dissemination of historical knowledge about the area in and
around the City of New Brighton and the State of Minnesota. To this end,
the organization intends to collect materials relating to this history in
the form of photographs, documents, ephemera (all printed material), and
small artifacts.
It is our goal to locate a building to house these exhibits. It must have
the following criteria:
Centrally located,
On a well-traveled route,
Accessible by public transportation,
Near fire and police protection.
The old shoe-?tand is a possibility to solve our storage problems. The
building, although small, is sturdy and does have historic value to New
Brighton. Another avenue we are investigating is the Soo Line Depot located
near the Pole Yards. We are presently communicating with the Soo Line about
the possibility of their donating this building to our society. (A grant
administered by the Minnesota Historical Society would be applied for to
move the building to a site.)
The Executive Board has worked closely with the Minnesota Historical Society
in determining goals and purposes. Plans are now being made to begin copying
old photos. A:book committee has been organized that will publish a history
of the New Brighton area. Gift forms are being prepared for donated items.
However, storage will soon be needed for these items.
The New Brighton Area Historical Society has a membership of fifty-five members.
At this time,.we are holding board meetings in the homes of the board members
and general meetings at the Community Resource Center.
The Executive Board has been told that the possibility exists for a museum
site at the Veterans Park location. We understand that the Park Board is
currently studying long-range park plans. It is our intent to request that
the New Brighton Park Board consider a future site for a museum in these long-
range plans.
