s
in summary, the City has its options open however, until
Ramsey County takes formal action it will be difficult to
proceed from our present position of wait and see. Should
Ramsey County decide to proceed with development of the
entire system, or of Long Lake/Rush Lake as a pilot project,
the. City's decision-making process will be simplified. The
idea of using Long Lake/Rush Lake as a pilot has been in-
formally presented to Ramsey County staff and Commissioner
Salverda. If the County should opt for no development in
the immediate future, the City should at least consider the
option of securing permission from Ramsey County and Metro
Council to develop the entire site as a regional park and
delete from the concept plan the nature center building and
the day camp. This operation would roughly cost the City
$117,000 per year with receipts in the $30,000-50,000 range
if entrance fees were charged. The remaining $67,000-87,000
expenditure is still a significant amount of money and further
study, as well as a firm decision from the County, will be
necessary before a final decision can be made.
•
•
