SPECIFIC GUIQELLNES <br />1. PARK: 1`;PlU 1?ECRf.ATION ARkAS AND FACILITIES <br />Develop a comprehensive park and recreation areas and facility plan liar <br />the C~it;y ~in accordance with accepted standards and special consideration <br />re~ated to specific needs and interests of the community. <br />]. Acquire undeveloped land on the fringes of existing parks, for pur- <br />i}ores of expansion. <br />2. Seek to develop a school-park complex thus making better use of <br />.existing open space through joint planning. (Example: Sunnyside) <br />3. Review existing .park and recreation areas and facilities and then <br />develop an intermediate approach to design in areas nat considered <br />in an attempt to provide more effective and efficient use of the. <br />areas and facilities. <br />4. Work with citizens and community q~ganizations in the planning of <br />all park anal recreation areas and facilities. <br />5. Establish methods and procedures to acquire ice arena and nature <br />center. <br />II. RECREATION PROGRAMMING <br />Recreation Programming shall include all segments of the community; <br />i.e. adults, teens, family, children, pre-schoolers, handicapped, and <br />senior citizens. However, primary emphasis on new programs shall be <br />in the areas currently described by this Department as inadequate or <br />in areas ~ahich new facilities are being built. <br />1. Establish a drop-in tyi.~e pray ram for teens in the seventh, through <br />twelfth trades allowing them an opportunity for informal unorganized. <br />gatirErings. <br />1. Establish programs which are geared far the family as a unit in <br />order to help bridge the carr~~uriication gap that presently exists <br />between members of a family. <br />~. In establishing any instructional programs, emphasis shall be in <br />"lifetime" sports and activities rather than activities which <br />cannat be continued throughout life. <br />4. Submit at least two new progr~irns far grade school girls. <br />5. Establish programs which provide opportunities for people to fetter <br />understand, enjoy and appreciate our natural environment. <br />6. Establish community service projects to get people involved. <br />7. Establish a summer p1aygro~and for the mentally handicapped. to inc_lrade <br />free bus service to and from the program. , <br />
