NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES
OCTOBER 1, 1980
I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
II. Members present: Carlson., Dahl., Grimshaw, Gunderman, Hogan, Johnson,
Solberg, Van Hatten, Council Rep. Benke - Olson arrived
at 7:45.
III. Minutes of September 3, 1980 meeting were approved as submitted.
IV. Correspondence
A. Council Report
Benke stated the CIP would probably be discussed at the budget
hearing next Tuesday. Everything has gone well.. The major topic
is Police staffing; hiring of a new officer. We are still waiting
to hear from Ramsey. County re: Long Lake Park.
Anderson said staff proposal was received from Ramsey County re:
Long ..Lake.
Benke asked if this could be distributed to the Park Board.
Anderson stated .that the last time a proposal was received, Ramsey
County specifically asked that it not be distributed. Anderson. would
assume that the same request would stand with this proposal.
Benke stated the Hansen Park Plan was approved .unanimously with the
exception of possibly widening the entrance.
Anderson stated that. the plans would be done in conjunction with the
Engineering Dept.
Carlson commented that he appreciated. the positive comments by Blomquist
and Benke regarding the plan. Also of the Council's compliments to
the-Park Board and staff for their work on the project.
Van Hatten felt the Hansen Park Plan should have been discussed at a
special meeting because of the concern and vastness of the item. He
felt sorry for some of the people who were waiting for other items on
the agenda.
Carlson stated he was concerned with resident's remarks stating re-
ports from Engineering and Police were. not received re: the safety
aspect at Hansen Park, He did not feel as much.. concern over the
Engineering aspect because Les Proper had attended s~n.e of the meetings
and. offered input but felt concern for the fact that nothing had been
received from the Police. -Carlson wondered how the Park Board should
go about getting these things from them or other people in the future.
Benke commented that the Police were. asked verbally of any safety
problems and responded no. Apparently they felt a written report
