October 1, 1.980 Park Board Minutes Page 4
Solberg agreed with Dahl.
Anderson said he would like a statement as to whether or not the
Park Board wants the survey as part of the Comprehensive-Plan.
Hogan felt that there was not enough feedback for documentation.
Van Hatten felt the survey-may: be more valuable than it seems.
The 3Z% that returned may be the percentage that acually use the
park..
Anderson said cne of the Council's desires was to find out what
needs were not being met.- The only. way to do this is to get re-
sponse from those who do not use the parks.
Van Hatten stated that perhaps there should be a question to that
affect. How many people use the parks? If you don't use the parks
why?
Grimshaw agreed that the survey should not_be used as anything con-
clusive. He agreed people that are satisfied are those that do not
fill out the survey.
Johnson stated that the Park Board got_nai-led to the wall on the
Long .Lake survey. When. there is a low response he doesn't feel
it should be used. Maybe get some group, i.e. Boy Scouts, to do
a survey on one particular area and compare the results to the
present survey.
Carlson stated the number of returns is not enough to validate the
survey. .The majority of the responses centered around only two of
the- parks.
Carlson stated he likes Johnson's suggestion of using. groups:. to do
specific areas. He feels that actually going to the parks and. talking
with the.. users would be most helpful. It would be more time consuming
and difficult... It should be done at 'different times of the year.
This would be a good tool for the Comprehensive Plan.
Gunderman stated he wasn't .sure :what new kind of information could
be gathered by doing this. Was there something pecfic the Park
Board is .looking for?
Johnson stated it would be only. to validate the information from the.
present. survey - perhaps ask. the people who don't use the park why,
as Van Hatten suggested.
Carlson stated he was not aware this survey was to be a part of
the Comprehensive Plan but thought it-.was to be used for Park-Board
information to find out what the people want.
Olson felt the survey was good information for Park Board .use but
not for`the Comprehensive Plan. Would like a somewhat professional
survey. done.,
