October 1, 1980 Park Board Minutes Page.S
Dahl .stated that you must be_careful in;distinguishing between who
uses the ..park and who doesn't. Someone who uses the park once a
month may consider themselves frequent users whereas another person
using it the same amount of time may. consider themselves infrequent
users. Somehow that should be determined beforehand.
Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Johnson, not to publish the
survey but to use it for background information only. .Motion passed.
Benke stated he would like to follow up on Carlson's statement of
talking directly with the people using-the parks. He feels this is
the only way to really find. out what the people want and think. He
feels it would be very good for the Park Board to do that. Find out
what portion of the population we are spending the thousands of
dollars on.
Gunderman stated he tries to make a tour. of all the parks once a
week.
Grimshaw stated if something is going to be done, Let's do it right.
Benke stated that this was not a.controlled survey. If it had been,
32% may be a good response.
Dahl feels sampling would be a good idea if we knew what data we
were looking for.
Gunderman. stated he would. like to see the. Park Board putting input
into the Comprehensive Plan and doing the best we can rather than
spend it on getting information that professional people give us.
Dahl stated alot of information can be gathered from sources such
as registration to get a feel for who is actively using the facilities.
Gunderman was concerned about how the Comprehensive Plan was being
accopmplished. He does not feel the progress so far was going very
well... At the next meeting: he would like to review the material put
together so far and discuss how it should be done.
Dahl. stated she had. not finished her assigned part of the Comprehensive
Plan but would have it ready at the next meeting.
Dahl stated she would like all the documentation done so far and
would -like to rehash. what. has been done.
Gunderman stated he would like to start at .point 0. Look it all
over. again .and di cuss it.
Anderson said he would like to do it wel, If that means doing it
over that°'s fine, but clot of the information that has been done is
.valid and useful.. The facilities inventory done by Van Hatten is
going to the City Manager and eventually to the Counc.i _.
