' NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES
SEPTEMBER: 3, 1980
I. The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m.
II. Members present: Carlson, Dahl,. Gunderman, Hogan, Johnson, Olson,
Solberg, Van Hatter - Grimshaw arrived at 7:40.
Council Rep. Berke arrived 7:40.
III. Minutes of August 13, 1980 meeting were approved as submitted.
IV. Correspondence
A. Council Report
Council Representative Berke.stated that nothing significant has
happened with. the new liquor store or downtown development. The .most
significant event is Al Que's cutback. .The cutback will be $30,000.
this .year and next year. This loss will reduce this year's and-next
year's budget. Reserves will be smaller by $60,000 than hoped. Berke
stated this cutback will not affect operating services. He stated
New Brighton is essentially in a good financial position so this cut-
back doesn`t hit us as hard as some cities.
Berke mentioned that the Council will be starting budget workshops,
including.CIP for 1981. It is a good idea to watch the Council as
it goes through the process.
New Park Board member Laura. Solberg asked Berke if the cutback would
affect downtown improvement.
Berke did not think the cutback would affect the development. De-
velopors will be waiting for upswing in economy.
V. New Business
A. Comment 1981-86 CIP
Anderson passed around a packet containing CIP information with a
schedule of projects and the year it is recommended. The schedule
has not-been changed from the original schedule submitted by the Park
Board. The Council has asked for comment on the CIP information
packet.
Anderson asked Berke if the Council will be going through the CIP
information and prioritizing, and if so, when will this happen.
Berke stated when it is decided what is needed for the liquor store
and the downtown development then the priorities will be considered.
Berke stated there will be a public hearing on the 9th of October
re: budget and CIP.
Motion by Dahl, seconded by Hogan, to recommend approval of the CIP
as submitted, except that $40,000 should be allowed. for Veterans Park
in 1982. If funding is not available for. all projects, the Board
would like to work with the Council to determine priorities.' Motion
passed.
