• ~ NE~a BRIGHTON PARK BOARD MINUTES
AUGUST 13, 1980
I. The meeting was called to order at 7:38 p.m.
II. Members present: Carlson, Dahl, Gunderman, Johnson, Olson.,
Van Hatten, Council Rep. Benke - Hogan arrived at 8:30.
absent.: Grimshaw, Solberg
III. Minutes of July 2, 1980 meeting were approved as submitted.
IV. Correspondence - None.
V. New Business
A. Historical Society Presentation
Janet Newham and Ken. Wagner were present from the New Brighton
Historical Society.
Janet explained that the Historical Society's main concerns at
present are to locate a building to house .exhibits that meets
the following criteria: centrally located, on well-travelled
route, accessible by public transportation, near fire and police
protection and also to obtain .land in which to some day have a
museum.. .Janet stated it is the Historical Society's intent to
request that the Park Board consider a future site for a museum.
in Veterans Park. The old shoe repair shop is being considered
as a possibility to solve storage problems. The building, although
small, is sturdy and does have historic value to New Brighton.
Soo Line Depot located near the Pole Yards is another building
being investigated. The Historical Society is presently communi-
cating with the Soo .Line about their donating this building to
the Society.
Gunderman commented that perhaps the Park Board could write a
letter to Soo Line stating the Park Board supports the Historical
Society in .its interest. in. the Soo Line Building.
Janet .asked the Park-Board to wait until they have heard from
the Soo Line before they send a .Letter.
Benke suggested that perhaps the Historical Society and the
Park and`Recreation Department could share a building located
north of City Hall.
Anderson stated that the area has been planned for a passive area
so the idea of a museum might be a good one. The soil condition,
however, is not good.
Gunderman would like to get the building in a place where it .looks
good.-
