August. l3, 1980 Park Board. Meeting
B. Downtown Development Plan - Veterans Park
Page 2
Anderson gave some background on the development and stated
that the City Manager., Director of Community Development,
and an architect have been working together on the plan.
Benke explained .that in the-first plan the buildings are lo-
cated close to the street. In the second-plan the buildings
are separated. The development would require significant
ponding. Benke stated he saw ponding as an ammenity not
liability. These are concept. plans, nothing definite is set..
Benke stated that approximately 85A parking spaces are being
considered for the area. The proposal for the northeast is a
Hotel (similar to the Hilton on 35W and Industrial Blvd.),
meeting space and a restaurant. To the west, some restaurants:.
and to the south. the new liquor store and some office buildings
(not sure if existing will remain or new ones built). To the
southeast office space is proposed...-Would like a mixture of
office space and then some specialty shops; lawyers, dentists, etc.
Anderson commented that -so many. things are potentials for the
downtown area that it will be interesting to watch it develop.
C. J. A. Lang Letter
The Park Board received a copy of a letter regarding the .frequent
violation of provisions of the Long Lake Surface Use Ordinance.
The wake from boats operated too close to the shoreline has al-
most washed away .all of his beach sand. Mr ..Lang.-requests buoys
be placed at intervals in-Long Lake 10O feet from his shoreline
to prevent further destruction to his property.
Carlson feels buoys are a good idea because it's hard to patrol
that-area. He also stated that there may be many lake residents
that are not. aware that the ordinance is in effect. Perhaps
there should be a mailing to all lake residents..
Benke commented that alot of people may not know how far 100 ft.
is. Buoys would alleviate that problem.
Carlson commented that if the buoys are put in he strongly suggests
informing residents the ordinance is in effect,
Anderson stated he could have buoys put in but he wanted to :check
with the Park Board and do a total job. He would like to put
buoy markers on the south and west side and sign the channel.
Gunderman asked .how much money this would cost.
Anderson estimated around $1,000 or :more. The money may not
be available in the correct account but it should. be possible
to take it from some other source.
