July 2, 1980 Park Board Minutes Page 7 Anderson asked. for comments on the. drainage Swale north of diamond #2. Cost would be about $10,000. The Swale is an eye sore. with weeds, mud and sludge. It is also a maintenance problem and restricts usability. Anderson recommends that we cover it. Similar problems have been addressed and he feels it should be done. It should never have to be done again. The area could then be used as a practice soccer area for youth. Van Hatten asked where the access-was. Anderson said it is a good hike. They'd have to walk across the park a Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Olson, to recommend that the ditch be filled and the area designated as a youth soccer practice area. Motion passed. Grimshaw asked-who is pushing for the soccer field.. Anderson said no one. As staff we have had requests for more practice areas. Carlson commented that who ever did the drawings should be compli- mented. It was a nice job. B. 1981-85 CIP The Park Board went through the CIP items and made additions and corrections. Motion by Dahl, seconded by Olson,. to adopt the CIP for 1981-86 as it is now...(See attachment). Motion .passed.. C. Long Lake Park Status Anderson stated he had the Ramsey-County Projected Costs Book for Regional Parks-and it is available if anyone wanted to look at it. Ramsey County will not develop any°regional parks until Metro Council does the funding. We are looking at a mini- mum of 2 years before any. operation/maintenance of regional funding is available. Many counties are against funding be- cause they will lose control. Gunderman stated he would like to meet with the Council on Long Lake before any: final action is taken. Discussion on Long Lake continued. It was decided that Anderson would submit a resolution to Ramsey County asking .when they will make a decision. Anderson will check with Gunderman before sending it. Ramsey. County meets every Monday. The Park Board will try to attend one of the meetings.
