Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Dahl, to recommend the first proposal shown with the parking lot maximized and the parking lot be without the external. drive on the west side. Motion passed. Johnson naye. Dahl said she ds not ready to say we don't-want any kind of walkway. The idea is nice to keep the pedestrians away from the traffic. We do .need to maximize the area but. it seems there may be .some-other possible ways of doing it;for instance cutting the berm off a little earlier (toward the, north). Likes the rest of the motion, Likes the entrance where it is and the free skating and picnic area where they are but not .ready to say the design of the actual parking area should or shouldn't be as shown. Van Hatten added to the motion, and Dahl seconded, that alterna- tives to the parking lot be seen before a final decision by the Park Board is made. Van Hatten would also like to see existing-heavy structures, such as the sign and streets, shown on the map. Carlson commented that if the berm is eliminated, we will be at the same point now .with. people driving through. Could the sidewalk be moved to the west outside edge of the parking lot and then put a crosswalk with stop. signs at the entrance before it comes into the parking lot itself. Anderson said another possibility would be to move the berm grass area into the center. You wouldn't lose many parking spaces that way. Grimshaw asked if this was being done to funnel people to the ball fields. Anderson responded yes. Carlson said the cars are now going up the hill. If that's the case, would it be good to do something to discourage it, Should it be done now. Harcus said shrubs seem to have eliminated the problem consider- ably. Anderson said more shrubs could be planted..
