NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD
MINUTES
JUNE 4, 1980
I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
II. Members present: Carlson, Dahl.,. Grimshaw, Gunderman, Hogan, Johnson,
and Council Representative Benke
Members absent: Olson, Van Hatten, Westling
III. Minutes of May 7, 1980 meeting were approved as submitted.
IV. Correspondence - None
V. New Business
A. Ramsey County Regional Parks (Verbal report)
The Park Director attended a Ramsey County Public Works Committee
meeting.. Ramsey County participation in the regional' park system
was discussed - the matter was held over until the June 16th meeting.
Grimshaw asked what pressure could be put on Ramsey County to
participate in the regional park system.
Anderson said the only pressure he knows of is to require the
County to repay cost of land acquisition.
Benke asked if it would be to the City's advantage if Ramsey
County did not get involved.
Anderson said he doubted it. Long Lake/Rush Lake is-the smallest
of 7 park sites. Metro Council would probably attempt to get
permission to run it through another agency.
Benke felt if Ramsey County does go with the regional park then
New Brighton will lose everything.
Anderson said he feels New Brighton is better off with Ramsey County
participating in the .regional-park. This may appeal to the St. Paul
Commissioners. Como, Phalen and Hyland are also in the same package.
St. Paul residence tax dollars would go down if Ramsey County got
into regional parks.
Benke asked if we went to metro wide funding if it would. have an
affect on per capita taxes.
Anderson stated it would be leveled off. across the region.
Benke asked for a per=capita estimate.
Anderson stated if the system were operational tomorrow it would
be $7 per household. An estimate cannot be made for the future
because everything is in the early planning stage and-they cannot
come up with what it would cost for .maintenance, etc.
