June 4, 1980 Park Board Minutes Page 8 <br />B. Johnson/Carlson Summary of M.R.P.A. Workshop <br />Johnson stated there were three .main speakers with topics on <br />financing, ways toward. reducing maintenance costs and how <br />society is changing. <br />Carlson commented that what the City has now will be used more <br />than it ever has been because of energy problems.. <br />Johnson said there was also discussion on reproducing. the <br />wilderness experience. Mass transit to parks was tried but <br />not. good but mass transit to ski places was good. <br />Carlson said New Brighton is in a much better spot than alot <br />of other areas. Carlson encouraged everyone to attend one of <br />these workshops. He said there was lots of interest. in Long <br />Lake. <br />Johnson feels the City may be going in the wrong direction by <br />staying away-from camping at Long Lake. He .feels it could be <br />good. <br />Carlson feels we are going in the right direction with Long <br />Lake Park. <br />Benke commented that travel in the .metro area was down consider- <br />ably from last year. We are seeing travel change patterns due <br />to gasoline prices. People are cutting back on travel and staying <br />home. <br />
