April 2, 1980 Park Board Minutes Page 6
Senden restated what Benke said earlier regarding the joint meeting
the Council was having with boards and commissions. He mentioned
that the minutes of meetings on the Council agenda was whelp in
getting things done. Long Lake and comprehensive park plan are
high on Council's priority list. These are things that have started
and hope to be continued. Minutes have been very valuable. If a
Park. Board member is present at the Council meeting, the Council
is aware that an item on the agenda is important. The Council will
attend to this-item within the first 5 minutes of the meeting.
Gundexman mentioned that the .Park. Board had different material to
base-its decision on regarding .the Highview Joint Powers. Agreement.
Senden stated the Council received a last minute report on the High-
view Joint Powers Agreement. ',
Gunderman stated the Park Board passed the Joint Powers Agreement
but then the Council received different information and made de-
cisions on new information.
Anderson stated he met with John Ostlund and George Christenson of
the school district and the City Manager regarding Highview .Joint
Powers Agreement..
Anderson stated it .was his impression that-the. City Manager would
be making a recommendation to the City Council at the next meeting.
Gunderman stated he was concerned with what happened with the .Joint
Powers Agreement; in that many things were changed that the Park
Board was not informed of.
Benke suggested the Park Board members receive a copy of the .report
that is going to the Council.
Janecek asked: if it will be going to the .Council for approval at
the meeting on the 20th.
Anderson responded yes, that was his understanding from the Manager.
Van Hatten recommended the Park Board have another meeting on the
16th and have the Highview Joint Powers Agreement 'on the agenda
along with goals and objectives.
Gunderman stated that the Park Board made its decision with the
idea that funding is a main concern. The Park Board made its
decision on different information than the Council. The Park
Board made a philosophical decision..
Benke stated he feels philosophical input from the Park Board is
good.
Janecek commented that she would like the Park Board to look at
the material before it goes to the Council.
