I~?EGI BRIGHTON PARK .BOARD MINUTES <br />JAP~rUARY 2 , 19 8 0 <br />I. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairperson <br />Gunderman. <br />II. A11 members were present <br />III, .Minutes of the December meeting were approved as submitted <br />IV. Correspondence <br />A. Council Item <br />Council Representative Blomquist stated that the next <br />Council meeting would be an organizational meeting. Park <br />Board members whose terms are. up must submit a new appli- <br />cation. Bob Benke will be the new Park Board Representative. <br />V. clew Business <br />A. Grading Plan RCE Property <br />The Park Board was asked to respond to the idea of using <br />all or portions of the park area for water storage. Les <br />Proper, City Engineer, was in attendance and explained that <br />the Rice Creek ~+latershed District was apparently going to <br />require a si¢nificant amount of storm water storage some- <br />where in the development area and that storage on the park <br />site would have to be one of the options considered. <br />DeBenedet presented a drawing showing water storage area <br />covering approximately the northern l/3 of the park.: <br />Gunderman asked feelings of each park board member on the <br />above discussion. <br />Hogan would like to see the plan turnedi around somehow to <br />make it usable park land. The way the plan is noc~a, is not <br />acceptablee Other alternatives need to be looked into. <br />Carlson agreed with Hogan. Carlson is not sure what function <br />the park would have. The way it is the .park would be a hill <br />and a hole. Not sure what could be put in the park. <br />Kern agreed with Hogan and Carlson. L~ants to see more <br />information. After a heavy rain the park may be out of use <br />for a long time. <br />Grimshaw stated we are losing everything. Developer is <br />Gaining everything. The plan is unacceptable to him and <br />feels the neighborhood would feel the same. <br />Johnson stated minimum park size is 5-7 acres. The 14 foot <br />drop would have to be fenced, then becoming a 2-3 acre park <br />and not acceptable. Cost should be jointly shared. <br />
