January 29 1980 Park ?3oard Minutes
Page 2
Olson asked if any thought as to how the park will be used
'1'~izsbs~~iou~~s~esconside~e~ before ma~Cin~a~~cision. B~o7~~ield?
should be discussed more fully.
Gunderman responded to her questions that nothing had been
determined yet because we do not have final approval on
the park.
~Jestling stated he went along with the rest of the group.
He felt it would be a 2-3 acre park and a 3 acre holding
pond. Should have another alternative - not viable as a
park.
Dahl felt the same as everyone else. Did not agree that
a-park board/resident meeting should wait until everything
is set. Dahl would like to meet with residents sooner.
Gunderman stated he is concerned with how the city functions
when so much has been done and tren something like this comes
up. Does not want to abandon everything but would like to
look at other alternatives. Hockey area or freeskating area
is a possibility.
Grimshaw stated that the council supported P.R.D. because of
the park - now everything is changed.
Thought to a 6 foot storm sewer was discussed but the 6~Tater-
shed District would be concerned with flooding downstream,
Proper stated that the ~Jatershed criteria is that; the run-
off should not be ar_y more than what it was to begin with.
Grimshaw asked if there were any soil or substances that
could be added to help.
Proper stated the sand= soil which is there now is ideal.
Anderson thought the neighborhood should be involved in this.
It's .conceivable that residents may want the pond. Favors
having RCE grade the entire park area. Hopkins has 2 parks
that are used for storm water storage and the areas are
usable most of the year. One park is a natural- area but
the other is used intensely.. The pond does not. seem to pro-
hibit any activities.
Carlson asked if the site is bigger than what we have to
work with.
Anderson responded no.
Proper suggested having a meeting with residents and see what
facilities are uTanted in the park. 1`~aybe everything will
work out well.
