i i~i~10 to 3. L. Ednx~nds - 3
;1pri 1 17, 1979
f. f~1innesota Transfer P,ailroad officials have discouraaed the use
of this right-of-way as a public trail corridor for reasons of
safety and associated liabilities.
Option C - "Municipal and County Roads between County Lino and Long Lake Park
a.~ the sequence of County Road H, Long Lake Road and P-lississippi
Street provides an existing r.~an-made corridor relatively un-
~i~,~peded between the west =.ounty line a~~d Long Lake Park.
b. the segment of County Road H betvreen Silver Lake Road and Long
Lake Road presently has a sidewalk parallel to the south side
of the Street. (The existing sidewalk could be extended on
«County Road H to the county line, on Long Lake Road and on the
north silo of Mississippi Street. The sidewalk would provide
for pedestrian use. A bike lane could be installed on both
.sides of the respective roads. There appears to be little, if
any, parking along County Road H and Long Lake Road. Neither
alignment would be suitable for cross-country skiing.)
c. the road rights-of-way which pass through residential areas
" have little, if any, natural scenic value and the trail user
': would be exposed to vehicular traffic and front yard activities
of adjacent residents.
d. Poppyseed Street east from Long Lake Road is a possible,
although less suitable, alternative to "Mississippi Street east
' .from Long Lake Road.
e. an access bridge to Long Lake Park will be required where
6ississippi Street terminates at Rice Creek's entrance to
Long Lake.
Option D - Mississippi Street
a. Mississippi Street is a fully improved (paved with curb and
gutter) street with a sidewalk on the norti~ side of the right-
of-~vay from the county line east to Lang Lake Road. The street
" is presently identified by signs as a municipal bike~ray. A
- sidewalk would be required on right-of-;vay adjacent to ^1ississipoi Strait
between Long Lake Road and Rice C,~eek's entrance into Long Lake.
b. the road alignment passes through a residential area which has
,; little, if any, natural scenic value and the trail user would
be exposed to vehicular traffic and front yard activities of
adjacent residents.
c. abridge +~roul d be required to pro vide access across Rice Creek
from the north bank (Anoka County Trail) to the south bank
(Stinson Blvd. which intersects with Mississippi Street).
