-6-
I'd like to ask .Maurie a couple of questions. Can you expand a. bit on
the, your comments on .the parts of the plan that relate to the overnight,
the camping portion and the concession stand. I know this is a question that
came up at some of the Park Board hearings , I think by perhaps explaining some
of the rationale and some of the specific elements elements of the plan
might clarify some of these questions.
MA OK The overnight camping, we're talking about restricting to groups such
as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, that kind of thing. Only closely
supervised groups. Well chaperoned, who have some kind of a tie in with the
Nature Center. We're envisioning at the site a. satellite Nature Center that
would be open oh somewhere between 8 and g months a year. It would not be open
during the winter time, but would be open during the summer, fall and probably
some of the springtime.. It could conceivably be a. church group or a school
group in addition to the other groups that I mentioned. earlier, but would be
very tightly controlled, very well supervised and my guess would be just right.
off the top of my head , and somebody may hold me to this someday,. but.. off the
top of my head that we .might be looking at oh 2,5 to 30~ utilization of that
site. The rest of the time it would be open for casual picnicking, people to
walk through, hike through, whatever. It would not be a heavily used area. But
it would be open most of the time just for normal picnicking. The concession
stand would be a p~.rt of the beach operation, would be realatively sma.ll,operation
a.nd would be designed primarily as a service to those people: who would use the
beach. We wouldn't get into anything fancy but would have something where
people who are swimming could stop and get something cold to drink, a bite to
eat that-would be the extent of it.
agree with
JS? Man I think I heard the City Attorney, tirezrth at your comment that did I hear
any comment would you like to perhaps... is that issue solved can the
..residents who live off the lake be further restricted than the ones who .live
on the lake? in regards to surface use?
