_7_
be classified as a Regional Park, and in doing so you accept,
more or less accept, certain activities along with it. That
doesn~t necessarily mean that there will have to be large power
boats coming off of this launch site. Metro., who has close
associations with the Department of Natural Resources are con-
tinually looking for lake access sites, access for boats. Now
you can classify boats in any size, in any means of power,
rowing or canoing, or some motors. But they're looking for lake
access sites. Sites to get people onto the lakes, whether it's
for boating, whether it's for canoing, whether it's for fishing
or sailing. They do want come sort of, they're looking for those
kinds of facilities and they are looking for more and they would
probably hate to see one taken away because there is(?) any boat
access, or existing lake access site here. And they would proba-
bly hate to see one disappear when they are trying to find more
in other parks in this County and other parks in the whole Metro
area. It's a high priority in the schedule then.
JS: Okay, with that I think we should open it to the people who are
here, and if, before you speak you would identify yourself - give
your name and address, the people who are keeping minutes can
make sure that those comments are a part of the record and in
that way we can ask the Park Board to review those, the Council
can review those, and the press might even carry them, etc. and
that way we can always fall back on them. If we would just follow
those, I'll try to recognize people in the order that they put
up their hands. If you have a question, address it to me and
I'll refer it to the appropriate person for answer. If you have
a comment, then I think you just make your comment, and then
when you're completed we'll take the next comment or question or
whatever. I don't expect that the Council or Staff will reply to
comments. If you have a question ask it or........to the question.
If you're making a comment that's for the record, we'll go on
to the next one. Any questions about that procedure? Okay, the
first, I'm sorry, is it a question about what I just said?
Man: No, it's not.
JS: Okay, okay, then we're ready to go, ah anybody who would like
to say anything regarding this concept plan and let me reiterate
again, this is a concept plan and it's a long way from being cut
and dried. It's a number of years before we even get into this
site. These things go in stages and this is kind of like a
working document. That doesn't mean that we should forget any
part of it. We ought to address everything that's in it, yes, but
it's not caste in concrete and there are plenty of chances along
the way to make those changes. There's no money allocated for
one thing, so there's no chance that we're going to do any work
on here until the Council approves funds to do the work. And
that's not yet to happen and we have budget hearings and all
those kinds of things whrer we'll address those things. Okay,
with that, who has a comment, yes.
- My name is Connie Weiss, I live at 180 15th Ave. N.W. I have
a question in regards to this overnight camping.
JS: Go ahead.
CW: Ah, I very strongly represent the Girl Scouting here in New
