-8-
Brighton. The idea I think is really very nice but extremely
impracticle. Our facilities, the facilities anyway that you're
describing here are, from my past experience, not good. From
one point you are too close in of the residential area. It
would be extremely difficult to maintain a group at that site
without a conflict from other residential people and I'm not
just referring to other residential young people but Itm referring
to older people. I've had similar experiences, we have a camp
that is located near White Bear. We have had an enormous amount
of vandalism there to the point where we almost had to close the
camp down completely. Now this, I understand is just going to be
a camping area and you are still going to have overnight in-
truders on the people that are camping there. There's. going to
be an enormous amount of complaining because of it. I donut
see any reason to have overnight camping there for our particu-
lar groups because you are potentially located within the City
itself. It would be no problem for anyone to get there at any
time during the day from any other suburban or inner city area.
What the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and other Youth programs
have to offer for this Nature Center can be done on a day time
basis without our having to.stay there overnight. I would be
very much in disagreement to this overnight site.
JS: Okay, thank you. The gentleman in the back.
- My name is Edward Hanson, 2168 Lakebrook Drive. Mr. Mayor and
Council persons. I am a spokesman for the Long Lake Homeowners
Association President Jerry Bensing. At a meeting on January
19, 1978, the Long Lake Homeownerts Association passed a resolu-
tion relating to this park and I request that the Council receive
a copy of this resolution..
JS: Do you have copies for the full council?
EH: Yes sir.
JS: Okay and will you read that please or summarize it?
EH: Yes, okay, I will read it, it's not that long. At a meeting of
the Long Lake Homeowners Association on January 19, 1978, the
membership considered the Long Lake Concept Plan for the develop-
ment of Long Lake Regional Park. ...Concept Plan ... has been
forwarded to the City Council for the City of New Brighton for
their approval. The membership concluded that it was-their desire
and in the best interest. of the community and. the public generally
to limit the development in uses of Long Lake Regional Park to
passive uses, such as family picnicking, swimming, biking and
Nature Centers. The membership was advised that a questionnaire
had been distributed to the community and had been analyzed by
the Park Board and summarized in a tabulation which is attached.
It was observed that the Long Lake Concept Plan for the develop=
ment of Long Lake Regional Park is approved by the City of New
Brighton Park Board and submitted to-the City Council includes
various uses of the park which are in opposition to the public
desired use. Therefore, be it resolved that by the Long Lake
Homeowners Association that the Long Lake Homeowner Association
that the Long Lake Homeowners Association request the City Council
to modify the Park Development Plan submitted by the Park Board
in the following respects: One that the eight uses receiving
the majority of the~communty's votes as appropriate uses for the
