<br />PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />DECEMBER 7, 1977 <br />I. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Gunderman <br />at 8~OC p.m. <br />II. Members presenta Blomquist, Cook, Dahl, Grimshaw, <br />Gunderman, Kern, Olson, t~v~estling <br />Members absent Andreotti <br />III. Minutes of November 2, 1977 meeting were corrected to <br />show Blomquist in attendance. <br />IV. Correspondence - None <br />V. Unfinished Business <br />A. Long Lake Planning <br />Staff reviewed the concept plan previously submitted <br />and a scale drawing of proposed facilities on the <br />site. A number of lakeshore residents were present <br />to express opposition to elements of the plan, stating <br />that canoe rentals will cause crowding of the lake, <br />lake access will allow overcrowding of the lake by <br />non-residents, and opposing changing location of the <br />beach. <br />Councilman Senden reminded the Board that the Council <br />had directed the Board to present a concept plan in <br />1977. <br />Blomquist asked how the size of parking facilities <br />would be determined. Staff replied that similar <br />facilities in the area would be surveyed. <br />Mary Lynn Dietz suggested that the nature center <br />be considered for cross country skiers and rentals. <br />Councilman Senden suggested that a picnic shelter <br />should be considered in the beach area. <br />Cook asked if Rush Lake could be considered as a <br />canoe area. Blomquist indicated that water tests <br />indicated that a high level of pollutants remained <br />in the lake. <br />Cook expressed concern that notice of meeting and <br />agenda were not published in the New Brighton <br />Bulletin. <br />Chairperson Gunderman expressed concern that the <br />needs of New Brighton residents werentt being given <br />adequate consideration in the plan. <br />
