I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
December 23, 1986

Announcements and Updates, continued

go any any further; would like to set up a meeting with the Chief
Judge and asked LeFevere's firm to make those contacts to try to
set up a meeting with the mayor or councilmember next week; and
each city will attempt to get their people there (with Salverda).
After that, if it is not moving in the right direction, we would
probably look at filing an injunction.

Benke stated, in addition to the consequences to the city's bud-
get and staff problems, we have not focused on the many residents
and victims who will be inconvenienced and burdened by having to
go downtown St. Paul.

Brandt commented that one thing of concern is the deceitfulness
of the promises and assurances given to the communities; years
ago they received cooperation from the cities in reducing some
local control over court services by promising that local court
facilities would not be eliminated without city consent. Now,
through this circumstance of consolidating into a single district
court, they are finding a back way to accomplish what, up front,
they promised would not be done.

Williams stated the court is not taking anything into considertion
other than their own situation; Benke stated that is part of the
frustration for which we have no answers.

Williams reported the Ramsey County League of Local Governments
had its annual meeting and banquet last week, advised the meet-
ings are good socially and also generally very educational, and
invited other members of the council to attend.

Benke announced that Williams was elected to the League's Board
and he can take the question to the Board for consideration of
having the night of the League's meeting changed to Thursdays.

Benke announced the next RCLLG meeting will be on January 21,
1987, at which there will be a top-notch panel of experts
speaking on hiring, firing, and selecting City Managers.

Adjournment
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Williams, to ADJOURN THE MEETING.

4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried

The meeting was adjourned at 9:19 p.m.

Page Ten

Ramsey County
League of
of Local

Adjournment

R~-

ATTEST:

~!~~

P:fnance'..oir-ector/City Clerk

. tSEAL} -
