PARK BOARD MINUTES <br />February ~-, ~ 976 <br />Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Gunderman at 8x00 p.m. <br />Board members presento Cook, Dahl, Gunderman, Smith, Sullivan, <br />TnTeissman and Council Representative Sender. <br />Minutes of the January 7, X976 meeting were approved as submitted. <br />Capital Improvements Plan <br />Chairoerson Gunderman expressed concern that the tennis courts previously <br />planned for ::.976 had been shifted to '978 and stated that the credi- <br />bility of the Park Board was at stake. <br />Dahl explained development priorities as contained in the Capital <br />Improvements Plan document and reminded the Board that the plan is <br />flexible and reflects the needs of the entire City. <br />In~eissman moved, seconded by Dahl that the Board go on record as being <br />in favor of inclusion of tennis courts at Freedom Park in ?.~76. Motion <br />carries° 6-0. <br />Selection of Park Names <br />Representatives df the Vermont Park area were present and indicated a <br />preference for "Vermont Park" as the name for their neighborhood park. <br />Motion by Smith, seconded by Cook that the Park Board recommend 1°Ver- <br />mont Park'` as the official name. Motion carries° 6-0. <br />Representatives of the 29th Avenue~Park area were in attendance and <br />suggested the following possibilities for names; Stinky Hollow, <br />Oakwood, Oak Knoll, Oakerest, Oakside, U~hite Oak and Hidden Oak. <br />Action was deferred to the March meeting. <br />Site development plans and playground equipment plans were reviewed <br />with those in attendance expressing preference for wood-type play <br />apparatus. Residents also requested that a basketball backstop and <br />small hard-surface court be included in plans for Vermont Park. <br />Building plans were reviewed with the residents and comments Tn~ere <br />generally favorable. <br />Park Board Appointment <br />Chairperson Gunderman informed the Board that Ralph Jasinski had sent <br />a letter of resignation to the Mayor and that a replacement was being <br />sought. <br />Election of Officers <br />Arlyn Gunderman was re-elected as Park Board Chairperson for 1976. <br />Meeting was adjourned at 915 p.m. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Maurice H.
