February 13, 1976
T0: Mayor Bromander and New Brighton Council Persons
FROM: Arlyn D. Gunderman, Chairperson, New Brighton Park Board
SUBJECT: Capital Improvement Plan for the City of New .Brighton -
1976 - Park and Recreation Section
~As you know the New Brighton Council and Park Board have for years very
carefully planned, implemented, and evaluated our total park and recreation .
program and development. Because of this team effort we are nationally
recognized in the parks area as being one of the best in the nation for
our sized community.
We have, however, at this time come to a most critical time as we look
at the proposed capital improvements for park development during the 1976 year.
The problem arises because chronologically we need"basic development
at'the Vermont and 29th park site along with continuing our regular plan
that includes tennis courts at Freedom Park.
We realized .when we developed the plan for 1976 that to accomplish this ~:
goal would require again a great community effort.
Thus, at our February 4th Park Board meeting we again passed a motion
.requesting the council to fund the tennis courts at Freedom Park along with
,'the development at Vermont and 29th Avenue for 1976.
For several ears we have romised the residents in the Freedom Park area
-that we would recommend to the council that the tennis courts be built in 1976.
.~ The city council in its 1975 ca ital.im rovements u date documented the
Tanned installation of the tennis courts in 1976. The area adjacent this
park is very heavily populated and has a great need for this type of facility..
We, hereby, request your serious consideration of funding these three.
projects for 1976 that our community may continue to grow in a mean ingful way.
Your efforts to accomplish this end are much appreciated. .
ADG:bI
~~ -
