Park Board Meeting November 6, 1974 Park Board meeting was called to order at 8°10 p.m. Board members presents Cook, Dahl, Gunderman, Smith, Sullivan and Weissman. Board members absento Jasinski. Others presents Cub Scout Pack x-19 Weblos; Liz Molald and Chillney Bier, League of Women Voters (League Observers); Joan Gray, League of Women Voters; Paul Cardinal, Department Intern from University of Minnesota and Charles H. Corlett, Acting Director of Parks and Recreation. The minutes of the regular meeting of October 2, 197- were received and approved as written. Agenda additionso 1 Park Board's Explanation of their Function 2 Park Board's Social Gathering 3 Presentation of Gold Medal Award Plaques ~- Departmental Report was moved to Item #4 on Agenda Board's Explanation of their Functions The Board members explained to the Cub Scouts what the functions of the Park Board are and entertained questions from the Cub Scouts about the Board and the Park and Recreation Department. Departmental Re~port~ Golf Course -The Board was informed what action was taken by the Ramsey_ County Open Space Commission on October 21 concerning the purchase of Brightwood Hills Golf Course, The report included an explanation of the motion by the Commission to have the Ramsey County staff and the New Brighton staff work together to include the purchase of Brightwood Hills Golf Course as a part of the Ramsey County Legislative proposal for the upcoming legislative session. Shade Tree Disease Control Program - An explanation of the city's Shade Tree Disease Control Program was given to the Board. Several questions were asked by the Board members and the Cub Scouts about this program. The Board members and the Cub Scouts were informed of how the disease spreads, techniques used to control the disease, recognition of diseased trees and how trees are infected by the disease, Vandalism at Sunny Square - The Board was informed that one concrete bench in the spray pool area has been destroyed and another has been damaged. Gunderman asked what would be done about the repair or replace- ment of these benches. It was explained that there would be no replace- ment and that the Department intends to make this area safe for public use.
