Park Board Meeting <br />November 6, 1974 <br />Park Board meeting was called to order at 8°10 p.m. <br />Board members presents Cook, Dahl, Gunderman, Smith, Sullivan and <br />Weissman. <br />Board members absento Jasinski. <br />Others presents Cub Scout Pack x-19 Weblos; Liz Molald and Chillney <br />Bier, League of Women Voters (League Observers); Joan Gray, League <br />of Women Voters; Paul Cardinal, Department Intern from University of <br />Minnesota and Charles H. Corlett, Acting Director of Parks and Recreation. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of October 2, 197- were received <br />and approved as written. <br />Agenda additionso <br />1 Park Board's Explanation of their Function <br />2 Park Board's Social Gathering <br />3 Presentation of Gold Medal Award Plaques <br />~- Departmental Report was moved to Item #4 on Agenda <br />Board's Explanation of their Functions <br />The Board members explained to the Cub Scouts what the functions of <br />the Park Board are and entertained questions from the Cub Scouts about <br />the Board and the Park and Recreation Department. <br />Departmental Re~port~ <br />Golf Course -The Board was informed what action was taken by the Ramsey_ <br />County Open Space Commission on October 21 concerning the purchase of <br />Brightwood Hills Golf Course, The report included an explanation of <br />the motion by the Commission to have the Ramsey County staff and the <br />New Brighton staff work together to include the purchase of Brightwood <br />Hills Golf Course as a part of the Ramsey County Legislative proposal <br />for the upcoming legislative session. <br />Shade Tree Disease Control Program - An explanation of the city's Shade <br />Tree Disease Control Program was given to the Board. Several questions <br />were asked by the Board members and the Cub Scouts about this program. <br />The Board members and the Cub Scouts were informed of how the disease <br />spreads, techniques used to control the disease, recognition of diseased <br />trees and how trees are infected by the disease, <br />Vandalism at Sunny Square - The Board was informed that one concrete <br />bench in the spray pool area has been destroyed and another has been <br />damaged. Gunderman asked what would be done about the repair or replace- <br />ment of these benches. It was explained that there would be no replace- <br />ment and that the Department intends to make this area safe for public <br />use. <br />
