(2} <br />Cook noted that the Board was concerned with linear facilities and had <br />endorsed the "Family of Trails" report by the Citizens Study Committee. <br />Dahl further stated that the preservation of natural features in private <br />developments was an important consideration. <br />In response to questions from Formell and Partyka, the following response <br />were made: <br />l.) The Board has discussed both an ice arena and a civic center, <br />haurever, no recommendations have been made. <br />2.) The Board is interested in more cooperative efforts between the <br />various commissions and committees concerning major facilities <br />such as trail systems and a community center. <br />3.) The development of the Long Lake site is a focus of the 5-10 <br />year period. <br />4.) The Board feels strongly that areas such as Rush Lake have to <br />be preserved if possible because they cannot be reclaimed at a <br />future date. <br />Consideration of Report on Downtown gfea. Study <br />Smith and Hagemeyer reviewed their report on the Downtown Area Study. <br />Smith stated that the area concerned in the Citizens Study Committees <br />report was really three separate sectionso County Road D to 7th Street <br />N.W., 7th Street N.W. to I-694 and I-694 to County Road H. He felt <br />that the second area, 7th Street N.W. to I-694 was the primary concern <br />and the development there would determine development in the other two. <br />areas. He recommended that the Board endorse a concept calling for <br />this area to be social/civic/recreation center. <br />Hagemeyer agreed with the report with the exception that he was not <br />decided on whether the downtown area should be a social/civic/Y'ecreatian <br />center. <br />Smith moved to recommend to the Council that the Downtown plans <br />concentrate on old downtown area, 5th Street N.tinT. to I-694 and develop : <br />a concept for that area before considering the opposite ends. Seconded <br />by Cook. Motions carries. <br />Task Force Report on Lighting <br />The Board reviewed the summary on the Task Force work concerning a <br />lighted athletic area. <br />
