PARK BOARD MEETING <br />April 5, 1.972 <br />The meeting was called to order at 8:1.0 P.M. <br />Board members present: Cook, Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, Sherlock, <br />Smith, and Council Representative Rebelein. Weissman appeared at <br />8:31. P.M. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of March 1, 1972 were approved <br />as submitted. <br />DISCUSSION OF PARK PLANNING <br />Park Board discussed the progress on the park plan review. The <br />Board has set its objectives concerning the New Brighton park system <br />and evaluation of the existing system in light of its objectives. <br />Financing was considered, however, it was determined that priorities <br />be established before making any decisions as to funding. <br />Priorities have been acted upon. The acquisition of new park sites <br />in Vermont Park and in the northwest corner of the village was <br />determined to be first priority.. The second priority was the <br />develapment of the new sites to a usable state. <br />Presently under consideration far inclusion in the park plan are: <br />1.. Development of Long Lake site <br />2. Additional development of Hansen Park <br />3. Additional tennis courts <br />~-. Junior football fields <br />5. Outdoor swimming pool <br />6. Increased landscaping <br />7. Passive recreation areas <br />8. Girl orientated facilities <br />9. Lighted ball diamonds <br />1.0. Redevelopment of Veterans Park <br />Hagemeyer asked if census figures had been put together for the <br />Veterans Park area. <br />A breakdown of children and their ages in the Veterans Park area <br />was given to the Park Board. The number of park-use age children <br />appeared to be smaller than those in the other park areas. It <br />was evident that many of the children lived in apartments along 10th <br />Street and would have equal access to Hansen Park. <br />
