Park Board Meeting
Page 2
It was suggested that the relatively low number of children in the
area might indicate that the park be developed with a different
objective than the typical playground,
Dahl informed the Board that the Citizens Study Committee was under-
going a study of the dokmtown area, and at this point with the
character of the commercial district changing rapidly it was entirely
passible that ten (1.0) years from now the whole area around Village
Hall would have. completely changed.
Sherlock suggested that it might be wise to adopt a kind of holding
philosophy of the redevelopment of Veterans Park. He stated that
until more information was available on what might happen to the
downtown area it would not be prudent to make any wholesale investment
in the property.
The Board generally agreed that mare information was needed before
specific recommendations could be made about Veterans Park.
Dahl mentioned that the Garden Club was interested in working on a
project on park property, possibly around the Village Hall.
Gunderman reminded the Board that the Garden Club had expressed an
interest in developing a part of Hansen Park as a Garden Club project
and that some determination should be made as to what they were
going to do and where.
Sherlock, a member of the Garden Club, stated that the Board should
be very careful in recommending a project to the Garden Club because
of the effort required to produce an aesthetic garden area. It was
suggested that a small concentration area of high visibility be set
aside for the Garden Cl~ab in Hansen Park.
Long Lake
The Board discussed a timetable for the development of Long Lake
Park. Of particular concern was the ability to construct a road
from the existing beach area north to the interior of the park.
The proposed Ramsey County park site adjoining Long Lake property
was also discussed.
Consideration was given to present and proposed zoning and the potentia='
loss of tax revenue.
