.. ° •
Park Board Meeting
Page 3
Smith suggested that because federal rr~onies were obtained to purchase
the property it was conceivable that the Village would not be able
to place any restrictions on use of the site. He stated that it was
conceivable that the site would be as intensely used whether~the~~-
Coun~y was involved or not.
One technique for restricting attempts that was pointed out to the
Board was designing the site to accommodate only so many users at
a given time, and to restrict use on a beach similar to that being
done at National Park Service.
Cook stated that regardless of how it was done, tYie residents of New
Brighton deserve a well maintained and operated facility at Lang Lake.
The Board requested that the points brought out in this discussion
be used as guidelines in further conversations with Ramsey County.
Department Report
1. The Board was informed that a department budget is being compiled
Omnibus tax law would have a very limiting effect on any major
improvement plans for 1973. Indications are that '73 will be
a hold year.
2. Long Lake beach is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 10th
with the operating system similar to last years.
3, It was requested by the staff that the July Park Board Meeting
be devoted to a discussion of skating programs and facilities.
The Board req~imeeisthresentlymallocabedmand how1other communities
how reserved P
deal 'with skating programs,
~.. Sugg
were solicited as to how this might be dealt with. PObuibding
solutions included signs for no trucks and stop sign,
ruts and bumps into the road and reinvestigating the potential
for reducing the speed limit.
The meeting adjourned at 10:12 p.m.•
Respectfully submitted,
Robert M.
