<br />PARK BOARD MEETING <br />December 1, 1971 <br />8:00 P.M. <br /> <br />The .meeting was called to order at 8:05 by Gleissman, senior member present. <br />Members Present: Cook, Dahl, Sherlock,. Smith, ~deissman and Council <br />Representative, Moen. <br />Gunderman appeared at 8:30 P.M. <br />Absent: Hagemeyer <br />Others Present; Mrs. E. E. ~,~isher, Mrs. Richard Neuman and Robert t•Iicklund, <br />Director of Parks and Recreation. <br />The minutes of the Special Meeting of November 16, 1971 were approved as <br />submitted, <br />Smith requested that discussion of a name for the Long Lake mark Site be <br />added to the agenda. <br />PARK PLAN - PHASE II <br />~- The Board discussed a proposal for a long-range comprehensitve acquisition <br />° and development plan. Sherlock stated that the proposal appeared to be in <br />time with the previous discussions on this issue. Smith suggested it would <br />be difficult to deal with entire proposal in one session but that the <br />section on acquisition was actually just a formal summary of several board <br />actions. Dahl asked what decisions were required. Smith replied that <br />-the Board could recommend acquisition of priority areas using liquor funds. <br />Dahl noted that the Citizens Study Committee had recommended $90,000.00 <br />of 'liquor funds be used for park acquisition in 1972. <br />Sherlock moved that the Park Board recommend to the Council that action be <br />initiated to procure the two high priority park sites; the Vermont Park <br />and Oakwood .Manor areas, with f financing to come from liquor surplus funds. <br />It is further recommended in view of the declining avaiiablity of land <br />in the Village that the action is to be initiated and the necessary funds set <br />aside by January, 1972. <br />Seconded by Smith <br />Motion Carries. <br />Dahl moved that the Park Board recommend to the Council that the site in <br />the area of 15th Street and 29th Avenue N. W. be designated as a proposed <br />park on the comprehensive plan. <br />Seconded by Sherlock <br />Motion carries. <br />Dahl stated that a lot of questions remain to be answered, what is the <br />timetable for acquisition of other areas, how is new development to be <br />financed, what prioritys on development are there, etc. <br />Sherlock suggested that financing projects on this Large a scale would <br />require a bond issue. <br />
