However, it was realized when <br />the program began that it would cost money to maintain the parks. He had <br />not heard many adverse comments on the existing maintenance. <br />Smith stated that if people want a first class community they. have to pay <br />for it. .New Brighton has bean an area leader in parks and-with other <br />communities greatly increasing park and recreation appropriations New <br />Brighton should keep pace.. tdeissman replied that those other communities <br />have crash programs. <br />T1ah1 agreed with Smith and asked why the budget has to be cut at all. <br />It was suggested that the Council be appraised of the board members feelings. <br />SHELTER HOUSE USE POLICY <br />Gunderman asked if the Department-had a policy governing use of the shelters. <br />He was informed that shelters were available to any non-profit public <br />service organization in T~1ew Brighton caith responsible adult leadership. He. <br />questioned if political gatherings were eligible. It was felt that bad <br />feeling would inevitably result. Therefore, requests of this type would be <br />denied.
