Park Board•
May 5,1971
3
Zoninq Ordinance
The Board continued its review of the open space requirements of the
Zoning Ordinance. The basic issue as zoning relates to the Park Board
is the acquisition of park land.
Dahl stated that the Planning Commission work to date has to be
considered so that potential multiple dwelling areas can be served.
Hagemeyer suggested that neighborhood parks would have to receive
additional emphasis because of increased densities. Dahl was appointed
to work with the Department to devise a list of potential park lands
to be mailed out with the agendas. The list will be discussed and a
formal plan adopted at the June meeting and sent to the Planning
Commission so it is taken into account in the comprehensive plan..
Retention of Brauer and Associates for a Park System Analysis
Tabled.
Letter from Lake Region Hockey Association
Motion by Dahl to receive letter.
Weissman, second
Motion carried
The letter stated that New Brighton had done a good job in providing
facilities for youth hockey. Two recommendations were made; one to
provide additional hockey rinks west of Silver Lake Road and two, to
upgrade the lighting at Sunny Square, Freedom and Totem Pole Parks.
Smith stated that New Brighton provides 60% of the population but
doesn't provide 60% of the rinks.
A discussion ensued in which it was brought out that no one questioned
the need for more hockey rinks; however, it was a matter of priorities
as to where resources were allocated.
The Board commented that the Lake Region Hockey Association did a good
jab in providing youth activities.
Mounds View Acres Presentation
Residents from Mounds View Acreas appeared to request that the Park Boarc
consider a parcel of property on 3rd Street S.W. between 16th Avenue S.w.
and Oakwood Drive for purchase as park land. Gary Polacyzk representing
the area residents stated that the parcel was of sufficient size, it
would serve an area not having access to a park and it would upgrade
the aesthetics of the area.
Smith stated that if plans to make E2 a thoroughfare are put into
effect then this area would be~isolated from Hansen, therefore the
parcel should be considered..
