In response to a request from the
Citizen's Study Committee, the Park Board determined its three top
priority capital improvements for presentation at a joint meeting on
March 31, 1971. The three projects selecteds
1. Development of Long Lake - Including a road, parking facilities,
picnic areas and a beach.
2. Acquisition of land -Acquiring park areas in sections of the
Village that do not have access to a park. Specifically,
Vermont Park and the section north of 694 and west of Silver
Lake Road.
3. Additional development of existing park facilities - Including
additional ball diamonds (2), a hard surface game area, and
walk paths at Hansen Park. Also, increased lighting at
Freedom, Totem Pole and Sunny Square, upgrading Veterans Park,
providing picnic facilities at Creek View, and the temporary
use of other Village lands for recreation areas.
Gunderman noted that the concluding section of the report was confusing
in that the other potential projects discussed appeared to be the ones
selected as high priority because of the wording.
Sherlock questioned the inclusion of two additional ball diamonds at
Hansen Park when the two on the site have not been used yet. It was
explained that these two diamonds are subject to settling and while
adequate for recreational play are not of the quality for adult use.
The east side of the park is relatively flat and stable and the two
additional diamonds could be established and ready for use in short
order,
Motion by Sherlock to approve the report with a rewording of the
"conclusions" section. Weissman second. Motion passed,
