i ~ <br />2 <br />Toning Ordinance <br />The discussion of the zoning ordinance was deferred until the April <br />meeting. <br />Planning Commission <br />Dahl reported on the Planning Commission meeting as it related to the <br />park system. Park acquisition needs in specific areas of the Village <br />were discussed particularly Vermont Park and the northwest section of <br />New Brighton. The Planning Commission was concerned about Park Board <br />plans for future acquisition in these areas so that this information <br />could be noted in the comprehensive plan. <br />Motion by Dahl to investigate the availability of properties within <br />the areas of need. Second by Sherlock. Motion passed. <br />In an informal discussion, the Board considered the possibility that <br />in the past its interests have been somewhat narrow. The emphasis. <br />has been on structured areas and athletic facilities while-the fine <br />arts and unstructured areas had not been considered to much of an <br />extent, The consensus was that it should be possible to provide for <br />both. <br />Village Newsletter <br />The Park Board received a letter from Mr. Thomas Lewcock, Administrative <br />Assistant, requesting items of interest for the Village of New Brighton.. <br />The Board requested that the Department write an article based on the <br />capital improvements priorities recently established. <br />Summer Program <br />Weissman inquired about the availability of Village ball fields for <br />use by the Mounds View Athletic Association. A procedure for scheduling <br />will be worked out by the Department and the MVAA. <br />Brauer Retention <br />The discussion `concerning the retention of Brauer and Associates was <br />deferred to the April meeting. <br />District 621 Recreation Committee Meeting <br />Smith reported on the meeting of the 621 Recreation Committee which <br />he attended. The significant result of the meeting,according to Smith, <br />was the obvious need to meet with surrounding communities such as <br />Shoreview and Arden Hills to coordinate park and recreation programs. <br />Gunderman suggested that the time seemed to have arrived for a reassess- <br />ment of needs in terms of the school district's recreation program as <br />it relates to the various communities. <br />Smith stated that all involved agencies; village, school district, <br />county, etc. should coordinate efforts to avoid a duplication of <br />services, It was requested that information concerning present and <br />
