Park Board Minutes
Special Meeting
June 10, 197.0
z
Mr, Barnhill asked if it wouldn't be wiser to use the same design as
the other park shelters. This would save the time needed for drawing
new plans and would almost insure completion of the building by the
coming skating season.
Mr.. Moen stated that the need ..for a community center was going to be
within the next five years, so first phase construction should begin
now. The. other shelter design would not suit this purpose.
Mr. Hagemeyer said it was-his opinion that it was unfeasible to put
up a temparary structure and that an attempt should be made to
complete a permanent building.
Mr. Sherlock questioned the advisability of hurrying a project such
as this one as the time for study and discussion would be severely
limited and unfortunate consequences might be the result.
Mr. Hagemeyer answered that the residents of the area had been promised
a building for this winter and they would not accept a temporary one.
Mr. Gunderman suggested that a trailer house or similar temporary
building be used if needed but that the accelerated work schedule go
ahead. If the building is completed on time, then there would be no
need for the trailer. If the building isn't completed, then the
trailer could be used until the building is done.
Mr. Smith stated that contractors as a group need work at the present
time which increases the likelihood of completion according to schedule,
Mr. Barnhill said that constructing a building similar to the other
park shelters would eliminate the completion date question.
Mr. Smith replied that this design would be extremely difficult to
expand on for the total community center.
Mr, Barnhill suggested two buildings. One, using the standard design
for skating, and the other, a new design, for a community center.
Mr. Smith stated that this would be uneconomical as the skating
building would be in use only 10 weeks of the year.
Mr. Sherlock asked if the Board should be considering a community
center at this time as the future requirements of the facility were
not known.
