In designing this structure, the planners felt the enjoyment provided the children was worth the risk involved in playing on the pieces. The Board then considered specific proposals for modifying the structure with the intent of increasing its safety. 1. Lowering .the height of the entire structure by 1 deck level (3 feet) 2. Add a railing along the platform at the head of each slide. The railings should extend about 1/2 the length of the platform. 3. Enclose the open area in the southwest wall with vertical slats. 4. Extend deck areas in the southeast corner to close up the existing opening in the floor. 5. Eliminate the high dive platform on the north side and move the north ladder to the interior of the structure. 6. Remove t e eam across the north slide and put it across the opening created by eliminating the high dive. The planner stat d at the last two items (# 5 & 6} could be done at no cost and/ a ~.re a change order. Dahl moved that the Board recommend to the Village Council that the no-cost changes (5 & 6} be made and the other proposals be studied by the planner as to their cost. Smith seconded the motion. Motion carried Eagle Scout Project John Edson, an Eagle Scout, appeared before the Board to request its . permission to clean up the pond in the southwest corner of Seventh Street Park. He also plans to install some plantings in the area. The project is intended to fulfill the requirements for an Eagle award in conservation. Dahl moved that the Board approve Mr. Edson's project.
