Park Board Minutes <br />august 5, 1970 <br />Page 4 <br />Skating Areas at Richard J< Hansen Park <br />Mrs. E. E. Fisher stated that the original park plan had shown the <br />pleasure skating pond at Hansen Park to include a speed skating area <br />However, the pond as developed was not big enough for speed skating. <br />A discussion ensued and the Director was asked to consult with Brauer <br />as to the possibility of reinstating the speed skating rink and to <br />inquire what happened to the original rink by motion from Hagemeyer. <br />Sherlock, seconded the motion -- motion carried <br />Sherlock moved to consult with Brauer as to the adequacy of the <br />pond for pleasure skating by 200 persons - Hagemeyer seconded - <br />Motion harried. <br />Other Business <br />Gunderman requested that the architect submit the results of the <br />soil borings at Richard J. Hansen Park far review. <br />In answer to an inquiry from Gunderman, The: Dir ector stated that Long <br />Lake Beach attendance and revenues have increased approximately 75% <br />over last year. The State Department recently tested the water and <br />found it safe and the algae has at this point remained under control <br />through the Copper Sulfate treatment. <br />E. E. Fisher stated that he was taking test samples for Oak Wilt from. <br />Hansen Park. <br />Gunderman inquired as to the results of test samples for Dutch Elm <br />disease at Rice Creek Park. The results were positive and the trees <br />will be removed. Gunderman suggested that residents be alerted to <br />the possibility of trees in their yards having either Oak Wilt or <br />Dutch Elm Disease. <br />Meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m. <br />Respectfully submitted <br />r <br />Robert M.
