11 <br />Park Board Meeting <br />W September 2, 1970 <br />The meeting was called to order at 8x03 pem. <br />Board Members Presents Barnhill, Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, Sherlock, <br />Smith, Weissman and Council Representative Moen <br />Absentz None <br />Others Presenta Robert M. Wicklund, Director of Parks and Recreation, <br />;~„ . <br />Mrs. Frannie Olson, Business and Professional Women, <br />James Senden, Jaycees and Village residents. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of August S, 1970 were approved as <br />su~~mitted. <br />Name the Park Contest <br />Mrs. Frannie Olson of the Business and Professional Women appeared <br />before the Board to report on the progress of the Name The Park <br />Contest. The Business and Professional Women are coordinating the <br />contest with the League of Women Voters, Mrs. Jaycees and Jaycees also <br />participating. Children from grades 1-9 who live in New Brighton will <br />be eligible to enter the contest with entry blanks being passed out <br />through the schools, the New Brighton Bulletin and various businesses <br />in rTew Brighton. The collection point for entries will be the New <br />Brighton Bulletin. There will be a prize for each winning name for <br />the four parks involved, Foss Road, Pike Lake, Rice Creek, and <br />Sunnyside. The prizes will probably be cash collected from community <br />businesses. Any excess monies will be donated to the Park and <br />Recreation Department. <br />Tlie judge's panel will consist of one representative from each <br />organization with the Park and Recreation Department and Village <br />Council having approval authority. <br />The Board expressed its approval of the plan and appreciation for the <br />efforts of the Business and Professional ~nTomen's group. <br />Jaycees Memorial Project <br />Mr. Jim Senden of the New Brighton Jaycees appeared before the Board <br />to discuss the project to provide a memorial in Richard J. Hansen <br />.~la.rk. The project plan calls for the construction of an entrance sign <br />~--ith a small shelter with one option to include a second shelter <br />within the park and second option to plant trees near the structures. <br />The extent to which these options are completed depends on the money <br />atra i1aY~le . <br />financing is to be entirely by donations with labor provided by th.e <br />Jaycees and technical assistance donated by Brauer and Associates. <br />
